The sad truth is that a lot of the submissive customs are norms and submissiveness is expected from females. The book has been banned in Bangladesh because "its contents might hurt the existing social system and religious sentiments of the people.
Without questioning and confronting religious issues, there will never be any resolution.

Pen portraits of Her Doctor father, her simple mother, her brothers, mama, servants, religious teachers, people gathered for a festival of Eid are nice to read. Everyone and especially my Bengali friends. By the end of the book, I really wished that I could have a chance to meet Taslima Nasrin and have a conversation with her, maybe even get to know how she feels about her family members now.
